Celebrating the Class of 2025

As we approach the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the remarkable journey of our graduates and the inspiring figures who support them. This year, we are excited to celebrate not just the accomplishments of our students, but also the legacy of advocacy and leadership embodied by Christopher D. Johnson, our distinguished commencement speaker.

Who is Christopher D. Johnson?

Christopher D. Johnson is a passionate advocate for the Deaf community and a leader dedicated to fostering inclusivity and excellence. His journey began at various Deaf institutions in the South, where he found a sense of belonging and purpose. CJ has tirelessly worked to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline and preserve the rich culture of Black American Sign Language.

Currently serving as the Assistant Dean of Inclusive Excellence at the University of Cincinnati, CJ is also the university's first Deaf Black academic administrator. He is committed to developing future Black differently abled trailblazers. His educational journey includes earning a Master’s degree from Gallaudet University and pursuing a terminal degree in Leadership in Higher Education.

A Visionary Leader

CJ's leadership is characterized by a servant-oriented approach and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. He has held significant roles, including chairperson of The Drake Group's DEIA Ad Hoc Committee and president of the District of Columbia Black Deaf Advocates. His work inspires countless students, empowering them to embrace their identities and pursue their goals.

As we gather in Caskey Gym on June 6 at 6:00 PM, we will honor the hard work and dedication of the Class of 2025. This ceremony is not just a celebration of academic achievement; it’s a recognition of the resilience and determination shown by our graduates.
