Policies and Procedures

GPA Scale

Student grade point averages (GPAs) are calculated using a 4.0 scale. Letter grades are assigned the following quality points:

  • A = 4.0

  • B = 3.0

  • C = 2.0

  • D = 1.0

  • F = 0.0

Honors and Dual Credit Courses

To recognize the rigor of advanced coursework, an additional 0.5 quality point is awarded for successfully completed weighted courses, including Honors and Dual Credit courses. For example, a grade of A in a weighted course would earn 4.5 quality points rather than 4.0.

Honors Academic Probation

Students pursuing the Indiana Honors Diploma are expected to demonstrate consistent academic achievement. To remain on the Honors Diploma track, students must:

  • Earn a minimum grade of C in all courses required for the Honors Diploma.

  • Maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

A student who earns a grade of C- or lower in a required course or whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 will be placed on academic probation for one semester.

During the probationary semester, the student will participate in an academic support and monitoring plan that includes:

  • Weekly and quarterly reviews of academic progress and grades.

  • A formal conference with the Transition and Guidance Counseling Coordinator and the Principal to develop a plan for improvement.

  • Ongoing communication regarding the student's academic standing and progress toward meeting Honors Diploma requirements.

At the conclusion of the probationary period, the student's academic performance will be reviewed. If the student has not demonstrated sufficient improvement by achieving the required course grades and/or cumulative GPA, a case conference will be convened to determine whether a change from the Indiana Honors Diploma track to the Indiana Diploma track is appropriate.

Because each student's circumstances are unique, all decisions regarding Honors Diploma probation and diploma-track changes will be considered on an individual, case-by-case basis.

Dual Credit Class

Students may enroll in dual credit classes during their junior and senior year. Each course has its own criteria.

If you choose to take dual credit courses earlier in high school and your schedule permits, you will be responsible for all course-related costs.

Dual Credit Transfer

Upon graduating from the Indiana School for the Deaf, students are responsible for requesting official transcripts from the college or university where they earned dual credit. These transcripts should be sent to the academic advisor or admissions office at the college or university they plan to attend so that dual credits can be evaluated for transfer.
