The WBA (Regular) lightweight title is on the line on May 28, as Gervonta Davis defends the title against Rolando Romero. Brooklyn's Barclays Center will host the fight.

Davis made his pro debut in 2013. Winning the IBF super-featherweight title in '17, Davis lost the title that year after missing weight for a fight against Francisco Fonseca. In '18, Davis won the WBA (Super) super-featherweight title, and then became WBA (Regular) lightweight champion against Yuriorkis Gamboa in '19.

Against Leo Santa Cruz in October 2020, Davis won via knockout to win the WBA (Super) super-featherweight title. Moving divisions again, Davis beat Mario Barrios to win the WBA (Regular) super-lightweight title. His last fight was in December, beating Isaac Cruz to retain the WBA (Regular) lightweight title.

Romero made his pro debut in 2016. He won the interim WBA lightweight title in August '20 against Jackson Marinez. In his last bout in July, Romero faced Anthony Yigit. The interim title was not on the line because Yigit missed weight. Romero beat him in the seventh round via TKO.

Davis was last in action against Isaac Cruz in December, winning a 12-round decision in what was a fairly competitive fight.

Tank's original opponent, however, was supposed to be Romero, who was pulled from the fight due to allegations of sexual assault.

But the unbeaten boxer was cleared after investigations surrounding the accusations were closed without charges being filed.

Romero is now back in training camp and ready to take on a fired up Davis, who is hellbent on knocking his rival out.

But Romero brings his own power as well, and will be gunning to cause a huge upset in the lightweight division.

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will be back under the lights this weekend as he defends his WBA lightweight title against Rolando Romero in New York.

Davis is unbeaten in his 26 professional bouts to date and has held multiple world crowns across three weight classes.

He beat Isaac Cruz by unanimous decision in Los Angeles last December and is now ready for his next clash. ‘Rolly’ Romero is also undefeated, claiming 14 straight wins and beating Anthony Yigit in his last bout. Romero is the main challenger to the WBA title and should prove to be a tough test for Davis.
