Updated: Mar 13
In light of the continued spread of COVID-19 (the coronavirus), the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) and LUNA have decided to postpone the Deaf Interpreter 40-hour Training with Jimmy Beldon originally scheduled for March 27-29 and April 24-26. We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause, but your health is our highest priority.
If you have already registered, we will be issuing you a full refund of your ticket purchase.
Because we do not know how the spread of COVID-19 will unfold, we are not at this time proposing an exact rescheduled date, but we suspect it may be some time in August or September. We will keep you informed as to when we hope to reschedule the training and assure you that we will hold the class only when it is safe to do so. The training will again be promoted through eventbrite.com and shared through ISD communication channels.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you in the fall!
There is an AWESOME opportunity that the ISD Interpreting team is a partner in coming on March 3rd. It is a FREE workshop for Hearing and Deaf interpreters and any interested Deaf interpreter candidate, and there is a minimal registration price for hearing interpreters earning CEUs.
This workshop is an introduction to Deaf-Hearing teaming. This training opens with an orientation to which situations are best supported by a Deaf-Hearing interpreting team using red flag indicators of settings, consumers, and stakes. Strategies will be shared on requesting a Deaf Interpreter and advocating for consumers. Participants will walk through the mechanics of DI/HI teaming including the different interpreting techniques used by DI/HI teams. Participants will view demonstrations and participate in hands-on practice in working with a team and interpreting different settings. Case studies will be provided for participants to analyze and strategize.
