This past weekend ISD hosted the National Deaf School Interpreter Retreat. The 28 staff interpreters at the conference represented Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, Arizona and California. The attendees were able to tour our beautiful and historic campus, dine in the 1200 club, and join the education department for a panel discussion of Power and Privilege. The other workshops included “CDIs at Residential Schools,” presented by Janet Schwall, ASLTA, CDI, and “Use of Depiction in an Academic Environment,” presented by Julie White, Ph.D., CI/CT. This collaboration enables ISD staff interpreters to better serve in ISD’s unique environment and to ensure that all stakeholders are seen, heard and understood.
