HEA 1443 Update

Hello ISD students, families, staff, alumni, and stakeholders,

I want to provide everyone with an update of HEA 1443. The act established a Task Force to further study the concept of the Indiana School for the Deaf and the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired to co-locate on one campus but operate independently. The Task Force met three times during 2020 and finalized the recommendation to the Indiana General Assembly. Our recommendation is to pursue co-habitation of both schools on a new campus. The new location will be within a 10 mile radius of I-465 that surrounds Marion County. The buildings on our current campus’ will be optimally maintained until the new campus is ready for occupancy. We also acknowledged the fiscal challenge of a $274 million budget. It will be up to the legislators to put this in motion or not.

If you have questions regarding HEA 1443, please feel free to contact me.
