INTERPRETING REQUEST SERVICES
Appointments are requested using the Outlook Calendar to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include the following information in the appointment: date, time, location, all attendees (please list off campus guests, students and their families as well), and details about the situation. Include all staff that are attending as part of the invited attendees. This way when a change is made to the date, time or location, all attendees will get the update automatically. If there is a need for a foreign language interpreter or CDI, please include that in the body of the appointment as well. Make requests as soon as possible.
The office will communicate with you if a freelance interpreter will be used instead of a staff interpreter. If a freelance interpreter is secured and your appointment is canceled, notify Interpreting Services more than 48 hours before the appointment so that ISD is not charged for the interpreter.
Attach any handouts, power points or other materials that will be useful to the interpreters.
ISD uses CDIs and Deaf interpreters as needed for guest speakers, case conferences or other special events. To request a CDI, send an Outlook appointment to email@example.com. Include the all details such as location, topic, presenter, participants and any other helpful information. If other interpreters are needed such as ASL or a foreign language interpreter, this can all be requested through the same Outlook appointment.
Foreign Language interpreters are available for any meeting or event on campus as needed for families. Foreign language requests are done by creating an Outlook appointment and sending it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include the all details such as location, topic, presenter, participants and any other helpful information. If other interpreters are needed such as CDI or ASL, this can all be requested through the same Outlook appointment.
Print materials can be translated into Spanish through our Spanish interpreter. Raymundo is at ISD on Mondays from 10am-4 pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am-1:30 pm. Send all translation materials in an editable word document to email@example.com.
Propio has a protocol for calling families that use a foreign language such as Burmese, Spanish, Chin, etc. This service can be used calling directly or calling through VRS. A follow up e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org is required after using this service for invoicing purposes.
ISD does not provide interpreters for field trips. Contact the venue and request interpreters. If the venue is resistant, please feel free to contact ISD Interpreting Services Office for ADA information and resources or interpreting services can directly confer and advocate for any ISD staff with the venue directly if preferred.
If ISD has purchased materials through a vendor and part of the purchase includes training, the vendor should provide the interpreters whether the training is hosted off campus or at ISD. If the vendor is resistant, please feel free to contact ISD Interpreting Services Office for ADA information and resources or interpreting services can directly confer and advocate for any ISD staff with the vendor directly if preferred.
If there is a medical emergency and an ISD education or student life team member is available to travel with the student, ISD Interpreters will not accompany the student in the ambulance or on the way to the hospital/medical facility. However, if there are not any members of the education or student life team available, ISD staff interpreters may accompany the student to the destination. Upon arriving at the hospital/medical facility, the responsibility of providing interpreting services then transfers to that entity. However, the interpreter may stay and interpret in the interim while waiting for the freelance or staff interpreter from the hospital to arrive.
ISD’s staff interpreters do interpret for ISD’s campus police as needed. If State police or another outside law enforcement agency comes to interview staff or students, they are responsible for providing their own interpreters. Likewise, if DCS/CPS comes on campus to interview staff or students, DCS/CPS are responsible for providing their own interpreters as well. If interpreting services are needed to relay that information to their staff, feel free to contact ISD’s interpreting services office.
