A Tech Prep Project:
Creating an Aquatic Habitat

During the school years of 1995-1996 and 1996-1997, students in ISD's Tech Prep Science classes completed the work for planning, designing, measuring, and excavating during the preliminary stages
of creating a wetlands area.  Throughout the process, students focused on their motto:

"We can make a difference . . .
in our education, in our environment, in our Earth."

Even though Amanda, Joshua, Montaey, Andy, Christina, Jamaica, Adam, Grover, Nikki, and Nichole have all graduated and left ISD, their work established a continuing legacy which they dedicated to the memory of a fellow classmate who died quite suddenly.

The wildlife habitat, which is located on the west side of ISD's campus, includes a pond and wetlands area, a greenhouse, and a tall grass prairie with grasses and  wildflowers native to Indiana.  The greenhouse is completed and in full operation.  High school science classes continue the required maintenance work for the Wetlands.  Boy Scouts have completed Eagle Scout projects by building
bird feeders, animal feeding stations, and wood duck boxes, as well as creating areas for the picnic tables.  Since Wehrling Wetlands' beginnings in 1995, new things have been added each year.
These web pages document the process of making Wehrling Wetlands.
