Paper Airplanes and Building Models

Students had fun making different kinds of paper airplanes, first by creating one on their
own and then by following patterns in books.  Some of them were simple and some of them
were complex, with movable parts.

The fun part was testing their paper airplanes, making adjustments on the designs of the
airplanes, and trying to get the airplanes to do loops and turns.

Each of the students selected a favorite, historic airplane.  They searched for information about their
airplanes and then built models of the airplanes they selected.  Before participating in Summer in the
Skies, none of the students had ever built a model of an airplane.
