Academy
of Model Aeronautics Museum
Muncie,
Indiana
Summer
in the Skies students enjoyed a day-long trip to Muncie, Indiana to visit
the Academy of Model
Aeronautics Museum. One of the museum's guides gave students a tour of the exhibits.
The
museum is the home of hundreds of models of all sizes, including radio-controlled
and
line-controlled models. The museum includes an antique model shop.
Hundreds
of the airplane models are displayed in glass cases and hung from the ceiling.
Summer
in the Skies students had fun using a computer simulation of
flying
a radio-controlled airplane and helicopter.
The
displays in the museum trace the history of model-building beginning with
a model of a bird
found in an Egyptian tomb and ending with a model of the space shuttle.
