Well, CALYPSO 2007 is about to come to an end. From tours
on the moon at the Kennedy Space Center to tours of the ocean at Key
Largo, I feel that everyone involved in this trip will leave with wonderful
memories. For tips in the future, for students of CALYPSO 2008, I composed
a list of TOP 10 Reminders for CALYPSO:
10. Always pay attention to the current at sea, or you may end up swimming
a marathon back to the boat.
9. Always use the buddy system when diving or when walking throught
the woods for a soda at night.
8. Remember: Too much of a good thing can get old. Never take home-cooked
food for granted.
7. Think twice before getting a CALYPSO spray tan because you may turn
orange. (A personal mistake of mine!)
6. Don't be discouraged if the satellite doesn't launch on time. You
might end up getting even better seats to see it!
5. Never touch Dave's lucky chicken foot. It might save your life.
4. Educate yourself on the features of a shark's dorsal fin. It's possible
you will panic in the ocean over nothing but a dolphin.
3. Hold on to your bathing suit bottoms when swimming with aquatic life
--- especially dolphins!
2. There are two types of divers: those who pee in their wetsuits &
those who lie about peeing in their wetsuits.
and the Number One thing to remember ......
1. ALWAYS have fun & ALWAYS be optimistic!

Last night, we packed and cleaned up our rooms. We planned
to stay up all night, but we didn't make it. We stayed up chatting until
about 12:30 am and we were so tired we went to bed. We got up at 4:50
am, got dressed, and loaded all of our luggage into the vans. We turned
in our keys to Miss Piety, who went to check us out of our hotel rooms.
We drove to Fort Lauderdale and all of us slept in the vans. We had
to stop for gas a little before we arrived at the airport. James and
Greg dropped us off at the airport, then went to return the rental vans.
We checked in and got our tickets, then went through the airport security.
Corey set off the alarms twice, so he was "wanded" by security.
They think it was his necklace that set off the alarm. We had just enough
time to get breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts. I slept again on the plane
to Detroit. We had a VERY long layover in Detroit, so we ate lunch at
"Max & Erma's."
This has been a really a wonderful trip! I have learned so much about
NASA, about dolphins, and about scuba diving. I will really miss scuba
diving and being with the dolphins. My favorite part of the trip was
swimming with dolphins and the scuba diving. It was SO MUCH FUN being
in the water with dolphins. It was so funny being able to kiss a dolphin!
I will always remember the night dive! It was more of a challenge diving
at night. I saw really HUGE parrot fish and really HUGE green moray
eels. During the night dive, we turned off our lights and watched the
glow of tiny plankton in the water. I will NEVER EVER forget what I
have experienced on this trip.
Emails from home:
Mrs Huckleberry, The photos of all the kids and the dolphins
were absolutely amazing, You could see the joy in all their faces. Just
wanted to thank you and all the instructors and all who were involved
in this trip for taking such good care of our kids. It has been a wonderful
and exciting trip for them. Please have a safe trip home and tell Kailee
I will see her soon and can't wait to hear all about the trip. Thanks
again. Joyce -[Mamaw Joyce]
Dearest Tyler - I'm anxious to see you at the airport
this evening. The pictures and journals are fabulous and an enjoyment
to read. You've accomplished an adventure that hasn't been reached by
anyone of us in the family yet. You can guide us into that opportunity!
Rusty and I truly want to thank Mrs. Huckleberry and her crew for keeping
the vision possible and alive for all of the students who have gone
through this opportunity. Perhaps a reunion of the past and current
divers through CALYPSO could be arranged! Congratulations for a successful
adventure! Jodee
Thank you for making a grand time for the kids ... very
educational and an inspiring experience! When I saw the kids' faces
when they encountered the sights underwater and playing with dolphins,
it brought me happy tears! Thank you again! It is not my way for talking
a lot but I do with my gratitude! Leithia Whited
Hi Teresa: I hope you are sleeping tight right now. Just
wanted to say thanks again for letting us join you all on the dives
and the swim with the dolphins and eating out etc. We really enjoyed
our time. I wouldn't trade the memories for a million. Jodi and I arrived
back in Indy at 9:10 p.m. Sunday night without our luggage. I am sure
it will show up tomorrow from Ft Lauderdale. The flight at 2:30 was
cancelled due to mechanical problems, so we finally got a flight out
at 4:15 to Memphis and then connecting flight to Indy that left at 8
p.m. It was a long day as I'm sure you'd agree even more so!! I'm tired,
but it's a GOOD tired :). I think Kyle, Liz, and Andy Ruddy ended up
staying all night and will fly out Monday a.m. Bless you for all your
tireless hours spent on updating the journal too. You did a great job
and Kari's aunts and uncles have all enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward
to seeing the program next fall about the trip too. Have a restful week.
