Day 4, Friday, June 6, 2008

Samantha Martin (ICHS)

Today was another marvelous day down here in Florida! We packed our bags, loaded the vans, and left Cocoa Beach for Key Largo. But first, we went with Bill to both of his condos. We met Bill's wife, daughter, grandson, and dog, Tika. Then, we saw manatees! If you hold a hose with fresh water out to them, they drink it. Beth and I named one Manny. After all that, we started the six hour ride to Key Largo. On the way down, Janna, Amanda, and Carrie taught me many different ASL signs. Of course, sleeping was a must on the way down. We got to the condos and unpacked everything, which took about thirty minutes. For dinner, we went to Craig's Restaurant. I had a grilled chicken parmesan sandwich. Some people ate dolphin, a nickname for Mahi Mahi. But before dinner started, Janna and Colin had an interesting debate over old and new things and which was better. I don't think anyone knows who won! We went shopping at the grocery for some food to fill our fridges! Kyle and Colin ran around the store as Colin showed signs for many different items. Once we got back to the condos, Bill briefed us about scuba diving the next day. Then, we went to bed and prepared for an early and long day! :)

Jose Mast (ISD)

Today was another driving trip from Cocoa Beach to Key Largo! First thing, we stopped at Bill's new condo to see the manatees. We could not get close to the manatees, but we could see them. Bill decided to take us to his old condo. It has a dock and the manatees were really close to the dock. We stayed there for a short time, then we started the trip to Key Largo. It took six hours to arrive in Key Largo. Two Indian Creek High School students, Kyle and Samantha, really want to learn sign language. We taught them a lot during the trip. It was a long trip and we took a nap on the way. We stopped at Burger King for lunch. We arrived at our hotel, Ocean Pointe Suites, checked in and took our things to the rooms. We stayed there for 30 minutes, then went to Craig's Restaurant for dinner. After that, we went to the store and did some shopping for food. Our teachers bought lunch and breakfast food for tomorrow morning. We went back to the hotel. Bill gave a short talk about the scuba diving for tomorrow. After that, we got ready for bed time and are LOOKING FORWARD TO TOMORROW FOR SCUBA TIME! :-D

Students are silhouetted on the balcony while watching for manatees.

Two manatees are playing in the brackish water of the Banana River.

Scenes of Florida .... a beautiful fountain and a Great Blue Heron.

Manatees love drinking freshwater from the dock.
