Academic Bowl: General Information

The Gallaudet University Midwest Regional Academic Bowl,  will be hosted at the Indiana School for the Deaf, February 23-26, 2017.  Over 80 staff and community members have volunteered to work that weekend when  ISD will have Twenty Schools/Programs for the Deaf on our campus competing for the top four spots, qualifying them for the Gallaudet University National Academic Bowl, in Washington, D.C. in April 2017.

Gallaudet University informed us of the twenty schools which will be at ISD in February.  The two teampools are designated by Buff and Blue - Gallaudet University's school colors:

Buff Pool  -  Hinsdale South H.S., Nebraska Regional Programs, Wisconsin SD, Oregon SD, Governor Baxter (Maine) SD, Minnesota SAD, Missouri SD, Whitney Young HS, Michigan SD, Western Pennsylvania SD.

Blue Pool  -  Indiana SD, Oklahoma SD, Iowa SD, Kansas SD, Ernest C. Drury (Canada) SD, John Hersey HS, Hawaii SD, West Virginia SD, Arkansas SD.

As you can see, there will be quite a representation of schools from various regions which should make for a very competitive and enriching weekend.

All of the matches are open to the public and free of charge.

Make plans now to support our Academic Bowl Team:  Seniors - Rynata Fonseca and Isabella Paulone, Junior - Kate Lorenzo, and Sophomore - Franco Bippus, along with their coaches (in their 19th season) Mary Kovatch and Chuck Daube.

Volunteer Information

Attention, all Academic Bowl volunteers!

Two training dates have been set for those of you who have volunteered to serve as moderators, power point operators, proctors, and door monitors. The Coordinator of Youth Programs Operations, Daniel Girard, will be leading  training sessions for staff volunteers on Friday, January 27, and then again on Saturday, January 28 for community volunteers.  Gallaudet University and ISD want to provide the best possible experience for students and staff from the twenty schools competing at the Midwest Regional Academic Bowl, so these training sessions are required for all volunteers.

A "review training session" will also be arranged on the afternoon/evening of Wednesday, February  22, 2017 for those who want to refresh their skills in preparation for the Academic Bowl competition beginning on February 24, 2017.
