Camp Willard

Camp Willard is a summer camp for 3rd through 12th grade Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. It will be held at Camp Crosley in North Webster, Indiana. The program at Camp Willard includes competetive and non-competetive games, team sports, swimming, arts and crafts, and many opportunities for social interaction. Camp Willard is named after William Willard, the founder and first superintendent of the Indiana School for the Deaf.

Philosophy

The Camp Willard experience allows Deaf and Hard of Hearing campers the opportunity to experience outdoor living, exploration of the environment, problem-solving, socialization and nature appreciation.  Campers can interact with others to share common experiences and develop networking and friendships.  This knowledge helps to broaden their view of the world and realize their individual potential.  The primary language of Camp Willard is sign language and all Deaf and Hard of Hearing children are welcome to attend – regardless of signing ability.

Activities

Swimming, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, the Aqua Jump, the Sea Wasp Blob, the Iceberg fishing, water games, team sports, archery, riflery, drama, arts & crafts, horseback riding, high & low ropes, climbing/rappelling, and much more!

Staff

Camp Willard is staffed by trained Indiana School for the Deaf employees and Camp Crosley certified instructors.  All our camp counselors have knowledge and experience in education, American Sign Language, Deaf culture, communication facilitation and leadership.  By providing highly qualified staff we are able to provide each camper with opportunities for socialization with peers and adults, leadership development and personal growth.
