2009 MS Football (7/8th)

October 7: Speedway

The ISD MS boys faced their most formidable foe yet this fall in a strong and tough Speedway MS team. They had over 60 players and a very good MLB who dominated the game. We were unable to move the ball consistently given their defense, although we crossed midfield several times. The rain was a deterrent, also. They scored a touchdown each quarter and boys on both teams played clean and tough, with a lot of respect for each other.

October 2: Immaculate Heart of Mary

The MS Boys started out flat and remained flat with several mental lapses on both sides of the ball. IHM scored on a kickoff return, twice off fumbles inside their 10 yard red zone and off an errant pass. We had three scores called back on penalties with mental mistakes costing us a 4th score. Our rushing attack could never get going, so we relied on a passing game. Merle Baldridge threw for over a hundred yards on 14 of 17 passes, including 12 straight completed passes in a row. Tony Long, Chace Shaffer, and Malcolm Taylor dominated on defense.

September 25: Noblesville Lions

ISD MS FB won their third consecutive game with a 12-0 victory over the visiting Lions. Tony Long, Jr. scored on a 17 yard end sweep in the first quarter and Chace Shaffer scored on a 22 yard dash up the middle in the fourth quarter. The victory also was the third straight game that our opponents did not score a point against our defense.

September 18: Craig

ISD sprinted to a 40 - 0 halftime lead and then cruised in the 2nd half. Our dominating defense gave up only one first down the whole game and contributed 2 touchdowns. Offensively, 6 different players scored on a variety of offensive plays. Special notice goes to Martin Linares and Austin Phillips, who scored a rushing touchdown each in the 2nd half. Merle Baldridge passed for a touchdown and passed 3 2-point conversions as well as caught a 2-point conversion touchdown. Tony Long, Jr returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown as well as an intercepted pass for a 55 yard touchdown return.

September 11: Heritage Christian

ISD 34 Heritage Christian 0

The ISD team came out on fire on the Eagles home turf, turning into a swift track team in accumulating 6 touchdowns and over 350 yards rushing behind our four backs out of the multiple offensive formations. The victory was ISD's first in a very long time over the HCMS.Tailback Chace Shaffer continued to shine as he ran for over 150 yards and scored two touchdowns, including an 81-yard romp where he ran inside then after beating the linebacker, moved outside with the whole HC team giving chase. He also was a defensive stalwart, making 3 interceptions and over 8 solo tackles. FB Tony Long and SB Jeremy Dean also ran over a hundred yards each with two touchdowns. QB Merle Baldridge ran for over 55 yards and made his first MS touchdown pass in a 2-pt conversion to Jeremy Dean.Travis Collett was highly complimented by the officals after the game for his solid tackling from the linebacker spot. Ferfan Sanchez and Zack Kremer continued to be exlempary defensive ends complementing our defensive backs (4 interceptions total - 3 Shafer and 1 Baldridge), nullifying their ability to operate their spread offense. The boys worked hard all week to stop their offense which beat us 35-12 last year. Mitchell Slagle continues to become a treasure with his continuing developement on both sides of the line.Anothr source of pride for our boys was simply: 46 - 15. The number of their players against our total.

Current record: 1-1

September 4:Immaculate Heart of Mary

IHM 25 - ISD 6

ISD boys gave their best in a rainy and muddy match-up that was heavily focused on the running game. ISD's inexperience was obvious, although the boys gave moments of dominance on defense at different moments. Chace Shaffer ran for a 50+ yard touchdown for our lone score. Shaffer, Tony Long (middle linebacker with over 15 tackles) and the boys are to be complimented for their hard work.

Season record: 0-1
