May 6: Southwestern
Our ISD baseball team travelled to Southwestern High School near Shelbyville and became victorious winning by a score of 5-3. Tyler Crace was the winning pitcher as Tony Dall caught. Leadoff batter Jose Mast scored 2 runs for the Deaf Hoosiers. Tyler Crace and Tony Dall both went 2 for 4 on the day, both getting a triple each. Jose Mast, Jarvis Beaver, Will Fetzer, and Dana Howle all got a hit as the team gathered 8 hits on the day. Jorge Aleman had 2 walks in both of his batting appearances. Hipolito DeLuna was hit by pitch twice. Jarvis Beaver had two stolen bases as the Deaf Hoosiers stole 8 bases. Jose Mast, Will Fetzer, and Gabriel Paulone pulled off a 6-4-3 double play in the 2nd inning. It was a total team effort of a game offensively and defensively, as well as great pitching. Tyler Crace had 9 strikeouts and only 3 walks in 8 innings of work.
April 23: Washington
Washington came to ISD to play baseball against the Deaf Hoosiers. The game went back and forth. It was 1-0 ISD leading the first. 1-1 after the 2nd inning, we led 2-1 in the third. We remained 2-1 in the fourth. Washington tied the score at 2 apiece at the top of the 5th inning. ISD ran a rally scoring 5 runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning leading 7-2. On the top of the 6th, Washington scored 5 runs to tie the score at 7-7. Both teams did not score in the sixth inning, the score remained at 7-7. Washington was not able to score in the top half of the 7th inning. ISD had two outs in the 7th when Hipolito DeLuna walked on base. Hipolito stole 2nd and 3rd bases consecutively. Then Will Fetzer was batting, Will worked the count to the full count. Will fouled off several balls. Will finally knocked the ball over the 2nd baseman's head to run Hipolito DeLuna that led the game winning hit: 8 to 7!
Tony Dall and Jarvis Beaver were the pitchers for ISD while Jose Mast was the catcher. ISD scattered 9 hits at the plate. Jose Mast had a good day at the plate. He was 1 for 2 on the day and scoring 3 runs. Jose walked twice and stole base 3 times. Gabriel Paulone continued to hit for the 2nd day in a row going 2 for 4 with a RBI, stole 4 bases, scoring once. Tyler Crace and Will Fetzer also had two hits. Hipolito DeLuna and Mark Alcozer both also had a hit. Tyler Crace and Mark Alcozer had doubles. Tyler Crace, Jarvis Beaver, Hipolito DeLuna, and Will Fetzer all also stole 2 bases.
April 22: Manual
The ISD baseball went to visit Manual to play a game. It was a good hard fought game which the Deaf Hoosiers fell to Manual by a score of 7-6. Manual had a good left-handed pitcher who pitched the whole game. Tyler Crace pitched 3 innings with no hit balls which they did not score on him. In the 3 innings, Tyler also had 6 strikeouts. Jose Mast and Gabriel Paulone pitched well, too. Tony Dall caught the whole game.
The Deaf Hoosiers managed to get 10 hits of the day. Gabriel Paulone had the hot bat hitting 3 for 4 by which one was a double. Jose Mast, Tony Dall, and Jarvis Beaver each had two hits apiece. Tyler Crace also had a hit. Gabriel Paulone, Tyler Crace, and Hipolito DeLuna each stole 2 bases apiece. Jose Mast, Will Fetzer, Tony Dall, and Jarvis Beaver also stole a base. Manual scored 5 runs in the 5th inning which hurt us. After the game, I told the boys that they played and fought a good game, and to keep their heads up.
April 17: Indianapolis Kings
The Deaf Hoosiers baseball team competed against the Indianapolis Kings on our home field. We suffered our first loss of the year losing by a score of 14-5. ISD baseball team had several opportunities to score and failed to capitalize them. It was a good loss for the team against a good team. Tony Dall, Jarvis Beaver, Jose Mast, and Tyler Crace all pitched for the Deaf Hoosiers while Jose Mast and Tony Dall were the catchers. Tony Dall had a good day at the plate going two for four hitting a double and a triple getting 2 runs batted in as well. Jarvis Beaver and Hipolito DeLuna also had a hit. Jarvis also stole 3 bases during the game. Jarvis and Will Fetzer had two walks.
April 15: Baptist Academy
Indianapolis Baptist Academy came to ISD for a baseball game. It was the Deaf Hoosiers's first game. The Deaf Hoosiers were victorious winning by a score of 19-1.They are off to a good start! It was a great team effort of a game. Tyler Crace pitched 3 innings of no-hit game while striking out 6. Tony Dall caught. Jose Mast, Will Fetzer, Tyler Crace, Gabriel Paulone, and Jarvis Beaver each scored 3 runs apiece. Tony Dall scored twice while Mark Alcozer and Hipolito DeLuna scored once. Tony Dall batted 3 for 4 hitting a homerun in the park, and 6 runs batted in for the day. Jose Mast was 2 for 3, Tyler Crace 2 for 2, and Will Fetzer 1 for 1. Hipolito DeLuna had a double bagger. Gabriel Paulone, Jarvis Beaver, and Mark Alcozer each had a hit. As a team, the boys were reading the ball well hitting 12 for 25 and having 12 walks to go along with it. The Deaf Hoosiers also stole 23 bases with Mark Alcozer and Jose Mast having 4 apiece. Will Fetzer, Jarvis Beaver and Gabriel Paulone stole 3 apiece. Gabriel Paulone pitched 2 innings while Jose Mast caught.
